Sumi is the black of calligraphy ink, ground from soot and glue. A black colorway gives a traditional motif a bold, graphic, modern edge.
About Same-komon
Same-komon is an ultra-fine field of dots arranged in fan-shaped arcs, like shark skin.
Komon are the tiny repeating 'small crests' of Edo-period dyeing, and same-komon (shark komon) is one of the most refined. It was a signature pattern of the Kishu domain and worn on the formal kamishimo of samurai.
