About the Sumi 墨 colorway
Sumi is the black of calligraphy ink, ground from soot and glue. A black colorway gives a traditional motif a bold, graphic, modern edge.
About Ryusuimon
Ryusuimon depicts flowing water as soft, curling streams and eddies.
Flowing-water motifs run through Japanese art from the Heian period onward, often combined with seasonal flowers such as iris or chrysanthemum. The supple lines were a favourite on kimono, screens and lacquer.
